For more than ten years Garrison Wayne (resident of La Quinta, CA) has been hand painting his original and unique designs on market umbrellas for both residential and commercial use under the company name of CANVAS IN THE GARDEN. 

 

Garrison uses quality acrylic fabric with all-weather durability and paints uniquely on both sides of the fabric (mirror imaging) with exterior acrylic paint.  This technique (painting on both sides) provides full visual artwork underneath the umbrella as well as on the top side.  While you enjoy the shade of your umbrella, whether dining or just relaxing, the artwork just pops out there for your pleasure.  The acrylic exterior paints retain their color with UV exposure and are waterfast (no paint runs). 

 

You may cleanse these umbrellas by just hosing down with water in it’s open position.  In addition you may gently sponge with soapy water (similar to washing your car).  Simply rinse off any soap and then dry in its open position before storing away after the season. 

 

The frame is made of Asian hardwood, has eight ribs and comes in two sizes, seven and nine feet diameter.   For any table over 36” diameter, the nine foot size is recommend.  It is easy to raise or lower your umbrella with its simple rope and pulley system.  A metal pin holds it in place.  Options available are Aluminum tilting frames (9’ umbrella only). 

 

 

Garrison paints each umbrella individually and does not hire anyone else to assist him.  You can be assured when you purchase one of his umbrellas that you will be the proud owner of an original piece of art.

Additionally, we offer matching pillow shams.  They are also hand painted by Garrison with the same themes and exterior paints used on the umbrellas.  The fabric is heavy duty canvas.  They are sealed with an exterior weatherproofing agent.  In areas of extreme exposure to rain or dew it is recommended to store these in a dry location when not in use.  These pillows are sold unfilled to fit an 18” or 24” pillow form if purchased on-line and fully filled if purchased locally at our showroom.

Turning a tree into sawn wood or veneer requires less energy and produces less pollution compared to the large amounts of electricity and heat needed to produce other materials. Teak, The Incredible Difference

As you are probably aware, Wood-Joy is a formidable distributer of fine quality Teak Outdoor Furniture.  Whether Wood-Joy's teak is purchased locally at our facility in beautiful Palm Desert, CA or nationally via our secure internet sales, you can rely on us to always follow through with our promises. ALWAYS!

Teak is a remarkable long lasting wood, so here goes a little teak trivia....  The first outdoor teak benches were made from recycled decking from old sailing ships.  Many public parks in England are still furnished to this day with such teak benches, some of which are a century old.

Contrary to popular belief, Tectona Grandis (teak trees) is a deciduous hardwood tree brought by the Dutch to the dry, hilly terrain of Indonesia during Dutch colonial rule.  It is not indigenous to Indonesia, but rather a Dutch import which was then planted in the many plantations that are still in existence today.  It is noteworthy that the Dutch imported the original seedlings from Thailand in the year of 1816.

The Indonesian government is doing a reasonably good job managing and controlling the sustainable-yield practices of these trees and of course Wood-Joy requires that the teak used for its furniture be strictly harvested from these government controlled plantations.

So after factoring in that teak outdoor furniture can last around seventy plus years, the life cycle cost is very low.  Not bad considering the elegant and timeless classy look this furniture offers.  It is very common to see this furniture pass through a few generations with minimal maintenance.

In March 07 Wood-Joy was an official exhibitor at the Pacific Life Open Tennis Tournament at Indian Wells, CA.  A big draw.  The aggregate attendance surpassed 300,000 during the two week event.  It was amazing to see the various expressions of those strolling by our exhibitor's tent.  I wish now we would have taken a series of video clips of the most outrageous reactions and comments.  And believe me, there were many!  The most popular comment was "WOW, those things are so cool".  Even though we love hearing those kind words, we look forward to what you may have to say.
